World-class England team will rise from World Cup low under Eddie Jones - Jason Robinson (Image: FUZION100)It might not feel like it through the raw pain of a World Cup final defeat but the future is bright for England. The final was such a let-down after what had gone before. I dont think anyone - even the most ardent England fan - could argue that South Africa werent the superior side.
And by a long way.But the age profile of the England side means they will be around for a long time to come and sometimes you need to lose a game like that to go on to become a champion side. They can draw a team even more tightly together and fuel them for next time when hopefully they can go a stage further.
Trending This England team is in a good place.Im delighted that Eddie Jones will be staying on and although he will have to rejig his roster of assistant coaches with several of them moving on, I dont see many changes to the playing squad around the corner. There has already been a remarkable turnaround from four years ago and the low of the 2015 World Cup and England now have a group of genuinely world-class players.
That semi-final performance against New Zealand was the best by an England team I have ever seen. Any team that can play to that level is a serious proposition.

Jason RobinsonI also played in an England team that lost in a World Cup final to South Africa in 2007 but, frankly, we were pretty awful in that tournament and limped our way there. This campaign was nothing like that. There were so many positives for England and the team did so well in this tournament but they couldnt finish it off which is such a shame.
It just wasnt meant to be.South Africa came out of the blocks, dominated England physically with their scrum and their brutal defence and the side just couldnt get their game going.
